Drug Treatment Advocate
Drug Treatment Advocacy is a critical component of the State of Connecticut's Prevention Services for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The goal of Drug Treatment Advocate is to help individual clients achieve a platform from which they can launch their recovery. To achieve that goal, the Drug Treatment Advocate helps clients to enter drug treatment facilities that will help them recover and reduce their risk of HIV infection and the risk to partners, and ultimately establish long-term recovery. Safe and Secure
Safe and Secure (S&S) is an outreach program providing crisis stabilization and access to immediate, effective, and integrated treatment for chronically homeless individuals with co-occurring disorders. The main goals of S&S are to address gaps in mental health and substance abuse services by integrating housing, medical, and wrap-around services. S&S is offered through Safe Haven, one of Liberty's permanent supportive housing programs. LCS partners with South Central Rehabilitation Center (SCRC), a 24-hour detoxification and outpatient drug treatment center to target acutely and chronically homeless individuals suffering with co-occurring disorders and who are out of treatment with or at high risk for HIV/AIDS.
S&S is an integrated system of care that includes placement into short and long-term housing, and a Day Program. It also provides drug detoxification, long-term outpatient drug treatment, mental health services (psychiatric, psychological and individual/group counseling), primary medical care, specialized HIV care and Hepatitis C treatment. Homeless individuals enter the S&S program via Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the police, the Day Program, and through SCRC. Stabilization services are provided upon discharge from detoxification, and include Intensive Case Management.

Safe Haven Sunday Brunch
Throughout the winter months our homeless community in New Haven comes to our Safe Haven Sunday Brunch when they leave the shelters or the streets. They share a meal and some companionship for a few hours out of the cold and away from the isolation of the streets. The Brunch also offers an opportunity for our trained staff members to introduce our guests to the services that we provide at Liberty and those that are available in the community. It allows us to refer at least three people each week to needed services and ultimately find them permanent housing.
Liberty began the Brunch in 2009 because Sundays are difficult days for our homeless people in New Haven. Agencies that offer services are not open, public buildings are closed and meal programs are limited. Each Sunday we serve up to 100 people a warm, hearty catered meal, served by caring volunteers from our Day Program and Liberty staff in our community room at Safe Haven.
